Expeditions in India
Here are some of the expeditions I’ve completed across India that I’ll be sharing on this blog. It may take some time to document each journey in detail, but once they’re published, you’ll find them under the India tab in Expeditions. Below is the list in chronological order.
Markha Valley, Ladakh
Dates: 5 June 2022
Length: 8 Days
Start: Rumbak
Finish: Chokdo
Total Distance: 78km
Highest Point: Gongmaru La (5287m)
Type: Group of 2, camping/homestay trek
I finally made it to Ladakh — a high-altitude desert in the Indian Himalaya filled with rugged mountains, rivers, and moon-like landscapes. Over eight days in Markha Valley, I combined camping and homestays, carrying full gear and staying in some stunning, remote locations. We saw only five other hikers, but plenty of wildlife — yaks, marmots, and blue sheep — along the way. The mix of high passes, river crossings, remote villages, and vast views made me fall in love with this place and want to come back for more.
Rumtse to Kibber via Tso Moriri and Parang La (5591m), Ladakh
Dates: 23 June - 11 July 2022
Length: 19 Days
Start: Rumtse, Ladakh
Finish: Kibber, Himachal Pradesh
Total Distance: 220km
Highest Point: Yalung Nong South 6080m
Type: Group of 2, camping trek
An epic 19-day, 220km traverse from Rumtse to Kibber — crossing vast wilderness of high passes, valleys, lakes, rivers, glaciers, and gorges. It became the longest, most remote, and most rewarding hike I’ve ever done. What began as an idea — linking routes along an old trading path between Tibet, Changthang, and Spiti — turned into a full expedition. We mapped it out, acclimatised, secured permits, and organised a mid-way food drop in Korzok by Tso Moriri. Arriving in Kibber 19 days later — dusty, exhausted, and fulfilled — felt surreal. It left me with a deep appreciation for the wild beauty of the Indian Himalaya, and a strong pull to return.
Lasermo La (5450m) and Digar La (5441m), Ladakh
Dates: 17 July 2023
Length: 8 Days
First Half Start/Finish: Phyang (Murabak) to Hunder
Second Half Start/Finish: Digar Village to Saboo (Pulu Digar)
Total Distance: 70km
Highest Point: Lasermo La 5450m
Type: Group of 2, camping trek
The twin crossings of Lasermo La (5450m) and Digar La (5441m) form one of Ladakh’s most remote and adventurous high-altitude traverses — linking the Indus Valley, Nubra Valley, and back again through rarely travelled terrain.
Kayaking the Indus and Zanskar River, Ladakh
Dates: 14-16 July
Length: 3 Days
Type: Group of 2, base camping
Kayaking the Indus River and Zanskar River in Ladakh was a special step in a bigger journey — my goal to paddle the four great rivers that flow from the region of Mount Kailash. The Indus felt spiritual and historic — a river that has shaped entire civilisations flowing from the foot of Mount Kailash — while the Zanskar brought a more powerful, dramatic experience, cutting through deep gorges and towering canyon walls.
